Clair E. Villano John A. Fiorenza, S.C. John S. Flintosh Susan Yates Clair E. Villano Clair E. Villano, in what she describes as her "after-family-years career," spent more than 19 years devoted to consumer protection work. Her work for the Denver prosecutor's office involved every facet of the consumer field from complaint handling to investigations, from division management to public outreach and prevention efforts. An important part of her work was coordinating with businesses to resolve marketplace problems. She retired in November 1995. Villano is administrator for the Denver region of the Dispute Settlement Board (Ford Motor Company warranty issues). She has been a member of the adjunct faculty of Regis University since 1981, where she currently teaches courses in sociology and gender issues to adult learners in the School of Professional Studies. In 1996 Villano was appointed to the Motor Vehicle Dealer Board for the state of Colorado. In 1999 the Supreme Court appointed her as a lay member of the newly-formed Board of Trustees for the Attorneys' Fund for Client Protection. Villano has served since 1996 on the Investor Education Board of Colorado and was recently elected chair of the Potenza Committee of the sister Cities of Denver. Mrs. Villano has three degrees from the University of Colorado (BA, MA and MPA) and a Certificate in Management from Denver University. Back to top. John A. Fiorenza, S.C. John A. Fiorenza was born in Rockford, IL., and attended college at Marquette University's College of Liberal Arts, receiving a Bachelor of Science. He next attended Marquette University Law School and attained a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Fiorenza later attended the National College of State Trial Judges. From 1956 to 1966, Fiorenza was a practicing attorney in Milwaukee County. During this period of time, he served as Trustee of the Village of Brown Deer and Municipal Judge of Brown Deer. In June of 1966, Governor Warren P. Knowles appointed him as Milwaukee County Judge, and Fiorenza won a general election for a full term in 1967. He resigned the Judicial Office in 1972 to resume private practice of law and is now a shareholder in the firm of John A. Fiorenza, S.C. Fiorenza is currently a Reserve Judge of the State of Wisconsin, Referee for the Board of Attorneys' Professional Responsibility, as well as Court Commissioner for Milwaukee County. Among his numerous civic accomplishments, Fiorenza has served as Past President and Director of the Wisconsin Club; Past Director of the President's Executive Senate - Marquette University; Past President of the Milwaukee Bar Association; Founder and Director of the Woolsack Society - Marquette Law School; Past President and Director of the Milwaukee Bar Association Foundation Inc.; Past President and Director of the Marquette National Alumni Association; and Lecturer at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. Fiorenza has received several awards, including Marquette University Alumnus of the Year, Marquette University of Law Alumni Association Distinguished Law Alumnus, Marquette Club of Milwaukee Award of Excellence, and Brown Deer Jaycees Distinguished Service Award. Back to top. John S. Flintosh John S. Flintosh closed a 37-year career with Ford Motor Company on January 1, 1999. At retirement, he was Regulatory Compliance Manager for the Ford Customer Service Division in Dearborn. He previously served as Ford's Consumer Affairs Manager. As Regulatory Compliance Manager, Flintosh was responsible for ensuring Ford's compliance with state lemon laws and related state and federal automotive regulations. In this capacity, he worked closely with industry counterparts, consumer groups, legislators, and regulatory agencies. As Consumer Affairs Manager, he was responsible for Ford's alternative dispute resolution process, the Dispute Settlement Board, and reacquired vehicle operations. Flintosh's Ford career track included a variety of analytical and managerial assignments in finance, sales and marketing, and owner relations. Before joining Ford in 1962, Mr. Flintosh was Army Air Defense Artillery Director for Northern California. A Michigan native and current resident, Flintosh holds an MBA degree from Michigan State University and a BA (Economics) from the University of Michigan. Flintosh is Past President (1996) of the 3,000-member Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals in Business (SOCAP), the nation's leading association of professionals in customer satisfaction. He was the 1998 recipient of SOCAP's Esther Shapiro Award for consumer service excellence and remains a Board Member of SOCAP's Great Lakes Chapter. He is a former Board Member of the Better Business Bureau of Detroit and Southeastern Michigan and the National Coalition for Consumer Education (NCCE). He also served as an advisor to the National Institute for Consumer Education (NICE). Back to top. Susan Yates Susan Yates is a recognized expert in court-related alternative dispute resolution. Since 1997, she has been Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of ADR Systems, a non-profit organization that assists courts in Illinois in making more effective use of ADR. She has been a mediator since 1983, with her current practice focused on employment disputes. She has trained hundreds of people to mediate, has written training manuals, and has designed competency-based training and evaluation instruments. She has been an adjunct faculty member at the law schools at DePaul University, Hamline University, Loyola University, and Northwestern University. She is co-editor of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education’s first ADR book, published in 2001. She co-authored An Evaluation of the Lanham Act Mediation Program in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, with Jennifer Shack, in November 2000, as well as an article for the Northern Illinois University Law Review, “Mediating Lanham Act Cases: The Role of Empirical Evaluation” in Spring 2002. Susan is one of two ABA representatives to the joint committee that is reviewing the “Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators” adopted by the AAA, ABA and ACR. She is a former member and Chair of the Ford Consumer Appeals Board in Chicago. Back to top.
